On the 20th of October 2010, WMSL’s CEO Mr. Somkiat Chinthammit, and its President Mr. Montri Seniseth were invited to attend the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and the new Lao Stock Exchange (LSX). SET was represented by its President Mr. Charamporn Jotikasthira, while LSX was represented by LSX Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Dethphouvang Moularat. The signing was held at Vientiane, Lao PDR. The MOU between the two exchanges is to encourage and support the securities business of the LSX.
Under the MOU, the SET will train LSX personnel and hold Certified Modern Investment Professional courses for securities professionals, including establishing the Lao Capital Market Institute to develop financial and investment expertise for Lao securities professionals, investors, students, and the general public. It will also promote business opportunities between the two exchanges involved and their listed firms, as well as dual listings. On the same day, the SET also organized a seminar on “How the Stock Exchange Helped Us Grow: First-hand Experiences of Thai Entrepreneurs” to enhance knowledge of listing prospects with growth potential and the need for capital to expand.
